Following everyone else’s lead is safe, takes little effort and rarely leads to anything extraordinary. Nine times out of ten, we follow the crowd. It isn’t our fault that things are this way, we are just hardwired to take the path of least resistance.
If more people took a different route, looked at problems from a fresh perspective, we would all be better off. Going against the grain is a powerful thing. This is not to say that we should be contrarian for the sake of being different, this is about questioning what the obvious answer is, asking why and determining if it really is the right thing to do.
If I go a week without ever really stepping out of my comfort zone and doing something different from everyone else, I feel stagnant. I hate feeling stagnant.
